A report of a new entomopathogenic nematode species, Heterorhabditis gerrardi from Australia

November 21st, 2010 No comments

Recently, a new entomopathogenic nematode species Heterorhabditis gerrardi has been reported from Australia.  This nematode and its associated bacteria, Photorhabdus asymbiotica Kingscliff strain was identified using both morphological and molecular techniques.

Please read following paper on procedures used for identification of this new entomopathogenic nematode species.

A new species of an entomopathogenic nematode, Heterorhabditis brevicaudis from Taiwan

November 21st, 2010 No comments

A new species of Heterorhabditis brevicaudis and its symbiotic bacteria, Photorhabdus luminescens subsp. akhurstii has been reported for the first time from Taiwan.  This nematode was isolated from sandy coastal soils in moist bamboo forest.

Read following paper for more information on the methods used for identification of nematodes and its associated bacteria.

An entomopathogenic nematode in a soil sample collected from a natural forest in Mato Grosso do Sul state, Brazil was described using both morphological and molecular characteristics as a new species “Steinernema brazilense (Rhabditida: Steinernematidae)” (Nguyen et al., 2010).

Occurrence of entomopathogenic nematode Steinernema feltiae in Slovenia

January 13th, 2010 No comments

Presence of an entomopathogenic nematode, Steinernema feltiae (Rhabditida: Steinernematidae) was recorded for first time in soil samples collected from grasslands and field crops in central part of Slovenia. Nematodes were isolated using Galleria-baiting technique (Bedding and Akhurst, 1975) and identified using molecular technique.

A new record of entomopathogenic nematode, Heterorhabditis megidis from Turkey

December 9th, 2009 No comments

Presence of entomopathogenic nematode, Heterorhabditis megidis have been reported for the first time in the soil samples collected form Eastern Black Sea region of Turkey.  Nematodes were isolated using Galleria-baiting technique (Bedding and Akhurst, 1975) and identified using classical morphological (Poinar et al. 1987) and molecular techniques (Yilmaz et al., 2009).
